SMF (Simple Machines Forum)

I am happy to introduce to you Simple Machines Forum (SMF), one of the most popular forum software solutions on the web. It is open source free software which allows you to set up your own online community within minutes. It could be also easily integrated into your existing website using bridges. In addition, you can find bridges for many of the popular CMSs like Mambo, Joomla and XOOPS, on SMF’s official site. SMF offers SSI support – using the Server Side Includes function it allows you to synchronize your site and forum without the need of having any professional skills. The SMF package manager provides you with the easiest way to install/uninstall many mods which will change your forum features and make them more functional and secure. The admin panel is designed to be user friendly and gives you full access to all forum functions. Moreover, you can customize your SMF templates, layouts and message boards with one click. The forum administrator can create groups with different user permissions which can be easily managed.

SMF is written in the popular PHP language and supports only the MySQL database for the present time. But this is not a problem, because most of the hosts, including us, support MySQL databases. The SMF forum can be used with all our hosting plans. Furthermore, the SMF forum has an absolutely minimal impact on the resources of any server and comes always completely free!

In order to install the SMF forum or any other of the available CMSs in our Elefante Free Scripts installer, first you have to create a database in your account via the MySQL Databases menu which is situated under the Site Management section of your Control Panel.

After you’ve created the database in your hosting account, you will be able to access the phpMyAdmin tool which will allow you to manage your database tables.

Step 2: Navigate to the Control Panel’s Web Tools section and access the Elefante Installer.

Then you will see the list with all the available CMSs. Please choose to install SMF in your account from the PHP Scripts List.

Step 3: Now you have to run the installation by simply clicking on the “Install SMF 1.16” link which you will see in the tooltip menu.

Then you have to set the wished configurations for your SMF installation like Username, Password, E-mail Address. In addition, all complicated details like database prefix and installation path will be automatically detected by our system which makes the SMF installation very simple. But if you want to customize these options you are able to modify them using the Elefante tooltip menu.

When you are ready with the configuration of your CMS, just click on the “STEP3 Install” button to finish your SMF installation.

Step 4: If you do not remember the proper details for your SMF admin panel or the exact URL to it, you can use Elefante Installer’s “Installed Applications” section which is situated next to the PHP Scripts List. From there you are able to access or remove all of the installed CMSs in your account with one single click.

In order to see your admin details, please click on the blue link under the “Admin URL” column. Then you will see the administration panel of your SMF.
