WordPress - the most popular blog system nowadays!

WordPressWordPress is a PHP and MySQL based script. It's the most popular blog system nowadays. Like the creators say, WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. Never has the work with text been so easy. You can use it for your personal or corporate site.

System requirements:
WordPress has minimal system requirements:

  • PHP 4.3 or greater
  • MySQL 4.0 or greater
  • The mod_rewrite Apache module
100WebSpace.com’s web servers are particularly appropriate for hosting a WordPress site. They are Apache based, and Apache, according to the creators, is the best platform on which the script could be used.

Key features:

As mentioned above, working with text has never been easier. The Texturize engine enables you to convert plain ASCII into typographically correct XHTML entities. You can use quotes, apostrophes, ellipses, em and en dashes, multiplication symbols, and ampersands. Even more, the published article will fully correspond to the WC3 standard. You have the oportunity to add pictures, audio, embed videos, links. There is a spell checker tool, which makes editing not such a tedious task.

You can use themes. Installing a new theme is a pretty simple task. You have to upload it in the ‘wp-content/themes’ folder. Then you will be able to install the desired theme using the WordPress administration panel, “Appearance” menu. Here you can find a full list of the available WordPress themes.

100WebSpace.com also offers several popular themes which you can download from our site using the following link: http://www.100webspace.com/free-themes/free-wordpress-themes.html

Besides themes, you can also use plug-ins. Here you can find a full list of WordPress plug-ins: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

There are plug-ins for everything. Starting from comment moderation, through work with multimedia, all the way to SEO. We can't help mentioning the Akismet plug-in. It's included in the WordPress installation pack. This is a valuable tool which doesn't allow publishing of Spam comments under your articles. It filters every published comment – checking if it's a Spam or not. Unfortunately, it can be used only by clients of the „Personal“ plan and above. Clients of the „Free“ and „Free - No Ads“ plans can't take advantage of this extraordinary tool, because the outgoing connections are blocked and the Akismet needs access to the WordPress API:

User access conrol: The WordPress user system allows up to 10 levels of users. Your friends too have the opportunity to develop your WordPress site. There are 5 key roles available:

  • Administrator
  • Editor
  • Author
  • Contributor
  • Subscriber
On every level you can provide different access.

Last, but not least, is WordPress’s compatibility with other blog systems like Movable Type, Textpattern, Greymatter, Blogger, and b2. With the appropriate plug-in you can import your blog system and move to WordPress.

The full list of functions and possibilities which WordPress gives you is enormous. This makes it the most popular blog system. But most valuable is that it's an open source project and being such it's completely free. It's up to you how to develop your WordPress based site. The WordPress documentation is exceptionally detailed. It could be of great use to all users who haven't worked with this script. You can find it at: http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page/
